Christian initiation is accomplished by three sacraments together: Baptism which is the beginning of new life; Confirmation which is its strengthening; and the Eucharist which nourishes the disciple with Christ’s Body and Blood for his transformation in Christ.”

Sacrament Preparation

The Code of Canon Law states that children reaching the age of reason (age 7 or above) can and shall be prepared for the reception of First Eucharist.

Canon 914 implies that the preparation and celebration of the Sacrament of Penance is done before the reception of First Eucharist.

Parental involvement in the catechesis of these two sacraments is essential to the on-going formation of the child.  Because of this, it is necessary that the parent/guardian of those preparing for the sacrament of Penance and First Eucharist participate in the Intergenerational sessions held monthly beginning in September.

Any child preparing for these sacraments must be baptized and if baptized in a parish other than St. Margaret Mary, must submit a baptismal certificate when registering for the sacramental preparation sessions.

For further information concerning these Sacraments, contact the parish office at 724-335-2336.

“The Christian home is the place where children receive the first proclamation of the faith.  For this reason, the family is rightly called ‘the domestic church’ a community of grace and prayer, a school of human virtues and of Christian charity.”
